IKC3 collaborated with REEdI (Rethinking Engineering Education in Ireland) with their Summer Camp, held from 21st-23rd August for incoming transition year and 5th year students. IKC3 designed two workshops – one focused on the importance of designing sustainably within engineering. It looked at the need to be more sustainable, climate change, biodiversity loss and resource scarcity, as well as frameworks that designers can use such as SDGs, circular economy principles and bio-based materials within construction. The teenagers then chose scenarios to design sustainable bridges for. The second workshop introduced reflective learning practices that are important within creative and technical fields – this included free-writing, meditation, self-reflection, observation and surveys.
