IKC3, Ireland’s Knowledge Centre for Carbon, Climate and Community Action, recently welcomed over 40 participants to MTU Kerry Campus for a weeklong summer school as part of the Turas Learning Programme. The programme, which commenced in April, is a new 6-month upskilling initiative that will equip participants with up-to-date knowledge on contemporary climate change challenges in terms of adaptation, mitigation, science and policy. The programme allows learners to work actively and collaboratively through their insights and apply them in a practical, meaningful way within coherent ecological, social, economic and societal contexts. Transferable skills, personal development, and leadership development are key focus areas of the programme.
Participants of the programme are from a broad range of backgrounds including postgraduate students, early to mid-career professionals, employees in SMEs and large organisations, self-employed and people who want to upskill in the area of climate change and sustainability.
Learners have so far undertaken 5 online lectures and workshops and personal development sessions, the weeklong summer school was an opportunity for learners to meet each other, and their lecturers and coaches in person to put what they’ve learnt so far in to action. The IKC3 team from MTU, Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin put together an exciting schedule events including group learning sessions, guest speakers and site visits to Tralee Bay Wetlands and Ballygarry Hotel.
After the summer school, learners will work on an individual impact project. This activity will be supported by the coaches, and local coordinators from IKC3. During this phase participants will start planning how to drive change in a local context.
The Turas Learning Programme is fully funded for those taking part through the Higher Education Authority and IKC3.
